Why it's worth your time
Codegeist is Atlassian's developer hackathon, administered by Devpost. You build an app on Forge, Atlassian's app platform, that integrates with at least one Atlassian product or capability (Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management, Bitbucket, Teamwork Graph or Rovo), and enter it in one of three categories: apps for software teams, apps for business teams, or apps for specialised industries. An existing app qualifies only if it was rebuilt or updated on Forge after the 27 October start.
The reason it earns a place here is the prize table. The official rules itemise $120,000, all in cash: in each of the three categories, $15,000 for first, $8,000 for second and $5,000 for third ($84,000), plus 24 bonus prizes of $1,500 — six each for best Rovo agent, best app using the Atlassian MCP server, best Teamwork Graph integration and best Marketplace-published app ($36,000). That is 33 cash positions, and a project can win one grand prize and one bonus prize. First-place teams also get two tickets to Atlassian's Team 2027 (AMER) conference, travel not included; the first 300 entrants with an eligible submission get a swag pack.
On contention: 1,215 had registered as of 2 November 2026, six days after it opened. What you submit: an app judges can install through a Forge installation link, setup instructions, a text description and a public YouTube demo under five minutes (judges need not watch past three). Unlike most Devpost hackathons on this list, the rules do not require a public open-source repository. Rules are standard Devpost terms: free to enter, age of majority where you live, individuals, teams or organisations.
How to apply
Register on codegeist2026.devpost.com and sign up for a free Atlassian Cloud Developer License to get access to Forge.
Pick a category (software teams, business teams or specialised industries) and build a Forge app that integrates with at least one Atlassian product or capability.
If you are aiming for a bonus prize, use the matching piece: a Rovo agent, the rovo:mcp module, the Teamwork Graph API, or a Marketplace listing.
Create an installation link for judges and write clear setup instructions; record a demo video under five minutes and upload it publicly to YouTube.
Submit before 22 December 2026, 12:00pm PT — which is 1:30am IST on 23 December.
Frequently asked questions
Can students in India enter?
Yes. The official rules exclude residents of Brazil, Quebec, Russia, Belarus, Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Sudan and Myanmar, plus OFAC-sanctioned countries; India is not on the list. You must be at least the age of majority where you live, which is 18 in India.
Is it all cash?
The $120,000 is all cash: nine grand prizes across three categories and 24 bonus prizes of $1,500. The Team 2027 tickets for first place and the swag packs come on top and are not counted in that figure.
Does it cost anything?
No. The rules state no purchase or payment is necessary, and the Atlassian Cloud Developer License needed to build on Forge is free.
Can I submit an app I already built?
Only if it was updated or rebuilt on Forge after the submission period opened on 27 October 2026 and has a Forge manifest with at least one Forge module. Otherwise the app must be new and not published before that date.
What do I have to submit?
A Forge app judges can install via an installation link, setup instructions, a text description, the category and any bonus prizes you are entering, and a public YouTube demo video under five minutes.
